The Lowland Ramblers were formed in 2023 by Owensboro-native, Chris Abell (guitar), and California transplant, Alex Abend (bass). Shortly after, Blythe Dahlem moved to town and was quickly recruited to the duo. The band would go on to perform locally as a trio until the addition of Sam Sanford (banjo) in the summer of 2024.
After competing in Bourbon & Beyond's Bluegrass Compeition and making it to the finals, the region was on notice for this up and coming group. Their dedication to tradition and audacity to blend genres through exciting covers and improvisational jams quickly began turning heads and tuning ears. Between 2024 and 2025 the band played over 100 shows, developing their chemistry, bonds, and musical prowess. The Ramblers opened for nationally acclaimed, East Nash Grass to a packed house in their hometown Bluegrass Hall of Fame and Museum.
In 2025, the Lowland Ramblers continued to knock down milestones. They performed their first music festival (Willy Stock), released their full length album, "Going Under (2025)," and travelled beyond their home region, playing in over ten brand new cities. At the end of 2025, Sam Sanford informed the band of his departure and the band welcomed Jordan Riehm on banjo soon after. Jordan was an instant fit with the group, bringing experience and musicianship that helped push the band even further.
Now, in 2026, the band is beginning to come into their own, joining the ever growing scene of young bluegrass bands pushing past the preset lines of the genre. The band looks forward to traveling to several new cities and festivals, in addition to playing shows with new friends and peers along the way!
